How Championing a Cause Can Rock Your Real Estate Business – Episode 3

You want and you need more clients in your real estate business. There’s no question about that. But you can get them much more effectively without the brochures, mailers, and business cards flooding your community. How? By getting engaged in your community in a way that makes you a local hero. It sounds pretty intimidating at first but it’s not. It’s a very natural, caring, genuine way to put yourself in the the limelight that everyone is already looking at, and the fringe benefit is that your place as a realtor in the community is publicized without even talking about it. Find out more on this episode of Onion Juice.

What do I mean by “championing a cause?”

Championing a cause in your community doesn’t have to be a big thing… it only needs to be a thing that people care about. It might sound difficult to figure out what that is, but it’s not. You just have to listen, to pay attention to the things that people in your community are already interested in. And when you do get involved and become one of the people who are championing a cause like that, your real estate business will naturally rise to the top in the minds of those who are engaging in the cause. And the beauty is that you won’t even have to bring up the subject.

Trust is at the heart of the cause championing strategy.

People don’t buy houses from you because you’re the best realtor in town. They don’t list their homes from you because you sell more than anyone else (at least most don’t). People will buy or sell with you as their agent because they trust you, first and foremost. Championing a cause in your community positions you as a person who is respected and trusted – and that goes a LONG way toward building the high profile trust that gets you clients you need without you having to go search for them. Find out more about how you can be THAT trusted person on this episode.

Championing a cause is all about helping people.

I hope that you’re in the real estate business because you enjoy helping people get into the home of their dreams, because you want to see their lives enriched. It’s that same motive that can drive you into the causes in your community. Helping people is at the root of it, and being involved in those activities brings you to the attention of the very people you’re wanting to help. It’s a win-win that goes on and on. Find out how I go about doing this and how you can adapt my approach to your community, on this episode.

Stop bragging and GIVE people something to talk about.

The old school way of marketing a real estate business is to brag, to tout your sales numbers, to post pictures of your listings everywhere. How’s that been working for you? Stop it. Really. People don’t care about your listings. They don’t care about your sales numbers. But if you demonstrate that YOU are a person who cares about them, the community they live in, and the things they care about, they’ll start taking notice and talking about you when it comes to real estate. Funny how that works.
